The first private company in Australia to introduce alkaline stabilization for biosolids. BetterGrow successfully converted the biosolids into a marketable agricultural soil conditioner. There has been in excess of one million tonne of N-Viro Soil produced and marketed. The N-Viro Soil process also utilised a range of alkaline by-products including lime kiln dust, cement kiln dust and fly ash.

In addition, BetterGrow was also: 

The first private company in Australia to be awarded a contract to manage sewage sludge for land application by Hunter Water in Newcastle. This material is utilized in a rehabilitation program for Australia’s largest electricity producer; Macquarie Generation in the Hunter Valley for mine site rehabilitation.

Was responsible for purchasing an old coalmine site at Ipswich in Queensland, the site had extensive disturbed landscape from the previous mining activities. Bettergrow took the site on with a $2,500,000 rehabilitation bond with the Queensland Government in 1995 which was only purchased for $10.00. Bettergrow has now converted the site into the Greenspot Eco-Business and Recycling Park consisting of; a landfill, composting and various recycling operations. This site was nominated as Cleanup Australia’s first Queensland project in 2000. Bettergrow is also a founding benefactor of Cleanup Australia.
